Berlin’s hottest art happenings this weekend

Your Berlin art summer weekend (31st July – 3rd Aug): an art bike tour, Landscape Film Festival Berlin, Project Space Festival Berlin and a new village art market

Film Festival / Landscape Film Festival Berlin

Thursday 31st July – 8pm

As the temperature gets higher the number of openings this weekend gets lower, but no need to despair, Berlin is still delivering the goods in terms of new artistic talent. This Thursday enjoy an open air screening of seven short films produced over just two weeks by local filmmakers, all trying to capture the essence of this wonderful city and the simple stories which happen every day which make it stand out. Following the screenings there will be an after party until late – natürlich.

Freiluftkino Pompeji // Laskerstr. 5, 10245 Berlin

Art Bike Tour /

Thursday 31st July – 6:30pm

If there’s one thing we enjoy doing in this hot weather (besides lazing on a beach or by a lake) it’s riding our bike. The cool summer breeze in your hair, the leisurely pace – there’s not much to dislike. You can imagine our excitement, therefore, at the announcement of Berlin’s first bike based art tour, which is happening this Thursday. A concept originally founded in Toronto, the goal of Art Spin is to bridge the gap between the art world and the general public, everyone free to participate regardless of cycling ability or artistic knowledge. Berlin’s first Art Spin will include musical performances, multidisciplinary exhibitions, studio visits, film screenings and more around the Friedrichshain and Lichtenberg neighbourhoods. The perfect way to spend a summer evening!

Meeting point: Corner Frankfurter Allee / Möllendorffstraße // 10367 Berlin

Festival / Project Space Festival Berlin

From Friday 1st August – 31st August

Starting Friday the month of August is set to be full of surprises, or at least as far as Project Space Festival Berlin is concerned. Each day a new artistic offering will be presented, from project spaces holding exclusive 24 hour exhibitions to performative city tours and culinary get togethers. Aiming to take visitors on a month long trip through Berlin’s thriving art scene, this is the first edition of Project Space Festival Berlin, and hopefully the start of something beautiful. Just some of the project spaces involved include: Espace Surplus, LEAP, Autocenter, Grimmuseum and Kreuzberg Pavillon.

Market / 1st Village Market

Sunday 3rd August – 12 noon

Continue your unusual art weekend with a Sunday afternoon meander among The 1st Village Market. Home to over thirty food stalls and an array of street artists and performers, this is exactly the kind of place you want to be savouring those last minutes of weekend (and is just a hop, skip and a jump away from Berghain, if you’re that way inclined). On a totally unrelated note, Bao Kitchen will also be here – creators of the most heavenly Taiwanese ‘burgers’ these lips have ever tasted. Oh yes.

Neue Heimat / Revaler Str. 99 (Ecke Dirschauer Str.), 10245 Berlin

Crowdfunding / Turn Us On! C/O Berlin’s Reopening

Until 10th August

This isn’t an art event but the opportunity to be part of an exciting new chapter in one of Berlin’s biggest art institutions. As you know C/O Berlin closed its doors last year at the beloved post office building to relocate to Amerikahaus, and renovation has been taking place ever since. While the city of Berlin is renovating the building in accordance to historic preservation guidelines, the interior construction is not yet complete. As a registered non-profit foundation, C/O Berlin is asking for help from all of its fans to raise the remaining 100,000 euros needed to complete the interior work and help the venue open later this year. As a thank you to any donors they are offering a whole host of thank you gifts, from sneak peek tours of the construction site to C/O monthly publications, merchandise and more.
