Vernissage / Wishbone – Drawings by Mischief Champion 

Friday 15th August – 7pm 

This Friday evening join in a celebration of ‘life’s messy bits’ with the wonderfully quirky drawings of Mischief Champion, aka the very talented Katrin Hagen. Whether making fun of awkward family situations, societal norms or just ridiculous internet fads, her drawings make light of life’s absurdities and challenges, because if you can’t laugh at them well, what can you do? The exhibition will feature a mixture of both new and old material, zines, cards and booklets, and we can’t wait.

Finissage / Picture Berlin Festival 

Friday 15th August – 7pm 

Now in its fifth year, six week summer programme Picture Berlin will start winding down with a finissage marking the end of its photo salon exhibition. Created by artists for artists, the six week program included lectures, talks, artist residencies and general opportunities for artist networking in the city. Despite the program being nearly finished you can still get involved, both at the finissage and a handful of remaining events including a book making workshop, artist talk and closing party.

Festival / Tanz im August 

Friday 15th August until 30th August – Various times 

Celebrate the opening of the internationally acclaimed Tanz im August dance festival with one of several performances happening this Friday. One option is ‘Crooked Man’ at Schinkel Pavillon (various times), the German debut of choreographer and dancer Eduardo Fukushima which portrays the struggles of an old man in a state of constant flux. Another is ‘EAT’, an installation by Alain Buffard which deals with the notion of cannibalism and involves a striking video. Further options abound at both HAU 1,2 and 3 as well as other options around Berlin, and the festival runs until 30th August .

Play / Melbourne. On A Sunday Evening. 

Sunday 17th August – 8:30pm 

Wind down your weekend with the last in a series of six city based plays by London director David Ncube. Set in the thriving hub of Melbourne, the play will be performed outside and narrated by the sweet tones of an opera singer – in Korean. Accompanied by a live saxophone and  jazz soundtrack, the play will be an interesting experiment in terms of comprehension, do actions really speak louder than words? As an added bonus the event is free with just one caveat – audience members must bring a gift for the performers. This can be anything, the choice is yours!
