Openings, Events, Parties in Berlin

Berlin’s top openings and art events for the weekend (Sept 12th – 14th 2013): Remake Berlin 2013, Pornceptual’s Russian, David Shrigley & Thomas Schütte.

Festival / Remake Berlin 2013

Wednesday 11th – Sunday 15th September, times vary

In a city full of budding creatives it can be hard to make your ideas heard and your work unique. Learn how to re-think your previous attitudes and ways of working with this year’s Remake Festival at Platoon Kunsthalle which is split into three categories: ‚reset‘, ‚rethink‘ and ‚recreate‘. Spanning five days, the festival will combine lectures, presentations, debates, exhibitions and workshops by a host of international makers in the art, design and architecture communities.

Vernissage / Jen Ray – Better to Reign in Hell, than Serve in Heaven

Friday 13th September – 7pm

Berlin-based American artist Jen Ray presents her first solo show in Berlin this Friday at Haus am Lützowplatz. Focussing on women amidst an apocalyptic fantasy world, Ray’s large format, boldly colourful drawings will feature a variety of pop culture sources and provide, we imagine, a feast for the eyes. A performance will take place at 8:30pm, followed by an after show party.

Art Party / Pornceptual’s Russian Porn

Friday 13th September – 11pm

Following their first successful Tropical Porn shindig the creators of Pornceptual are back with another party filled with debauchery, dancing, and in this case dissidence against the heinous policies and homophobia being allowed in Russia. Celebrating the right to choose your own sexuality and what you do with your body, the photography project are sending photographs of the evening to the German Russian Embassy in protest for Russia’s LGBT society, so make sure you look your best.

Vernissage / David Shrigley – Big Shoes

Saturday 14th September – 6pm

Beloved British artist David Shrigley will be exhibiting in Berlin this week at BQ. Nominated this year for the Turner Prize, the artist will present new sculptural work as well as his widely recognised works on paper, displaying his signature cartoonish and witty drawings. The show will be his fifth at the gallery and focus on the everyday but necessary object: the shoe.

Vernissage / Schöne Grüsse Thomas Schütte

Saturday 14th September – 12 noon

The wonderful cabinet of curiosities that is Me Collector’s Room will open their doors ahead of Berlin Art Week this Saturday to unveil their latest exhibition on German sculptor Thomas Schütte. Entitled ‘Schöne Grüsse Thomas Schütte’, the exhibition will include not only sculptures but over 200 prints, demonstrating the fluid way in which the artist’s work is translated into different media.
