TOP 5 OPENINGS FOR YOUR BERLIN ART WEEKEND

Berlin’s top art events (23rd-25th Apr): Kunstsaele Berlin, Aanant & Zoo, Johann König, Scriptings, and Chert

Vernissage / Kunstsaele Berlin

Friday 24th April – 7pm until 9pm

As one of the early pioneers of 20th century conceptual art, Peter Downsbrough’s precise, expansive explorations of temporal and spatial positioning collapse the distance between the viewer and the object, reframing the space of the gallery as an instrument of intervention. Renowned for a practice featuring  thick black lines, Downsbrough’s positioning of his own work radicalizes both the site and the spectacle.

Kunstsaele Berlin // Bülowstraße 90, 10783 Berlin

Vernissage / Aanant & Zoo

Friday 24th April – 7pm until 9pm

The dreamy, saturated paintings of Peter Joseph hum with a pure elemental energy, inviting the viewer to linger longingly in the liminal space between abstraction and empathy. Delicate yet domineering, artfully composed and breathtakingly open, Joseph’s delightful works on paper are simply sumptuous.

Aanant & Zoo // Bülowstraße 90, 10783 Berlin

Vernissage / Johann König

Friday 24th April – 6pm until 9pm

The group show Material opening at Johann König on Friday evening is rigorous formal tour de force bringing together contemporary luminaries from Carl Andre to Daniel Turner. As the spring showers this city with new life, revel in the basics with an exhibition entirely dedicated to the building blocks of all things.

Johann König // Dessauer Straße 6-7, 10963 Berlin

Vernissage / Scriptings

Saturday 25th April – 7pm

Wander over to the sexy side of modern art, with Emma Hough’s incisive investigation of female desire. Dedicated to the possibilities inherent in one single question, „what would a space dedicated to the manifestation of female desire be like,“ Haugh’s experiential exploration of new forms of sensuality promises to be something truly special.

Scriptings //  Kamerunerstraße 47, 13351 Berlin

Vernissage / Chert

Saturday 25th April – 7pm until 9pm

Referencing the formal influences of a nomadic childhood, the visual style of Zora Mann’s diverse practice vacillate wildly, imbuing her work with an effervescence that transcends both time and space. Bold, energetic, and deeply personal, Mann’s practice manages to carve out a unique space for itself at the nexus of influences both personal and art historical.

Chert //  Skalitzer Straße 68, 10997 Berlin
