TOP 5 EVENTS FOR YOUR BERLIN ART WEEKEND

Berlin’s top art events (9th-11th Apr): Braennen, insitu, Galerie Thomas Fischer, HAU, and Neurotitan im Haus Schwarzenberg

Vernissage / Braennen

Thursday 9th April – 7pm

Serge Stephan’s endearing and quixoitic exploration of the human form takes shape in a conceptually driven contemplation of the practice of yoga. With Yogalala, Stephan engages with the magical potential of the formal before giving weight to the practical, the philosophical, and even the possible. Comical in tone and cosmic in scope, Stpehan’s work manages to be both tauntingly playful and hauntingly poignant.

Braennen //Stresemannstraße 25, 10963 Berlin

Vernissage / insitu

Thursday 9th April – 6pm until 9pm

With Framework 6: parallelisms, insitu presents two exhibitions simultaneously, offering up works by Eli Cortiñas, Ingo Mittelstaedt, and Sam Smith in parallel. Taking as a subject the great gaping lack that is  negative space, absence, and all that falls outside the frame, these two dynamic group exhibitions explore possibility from an entirely new perspective.

insitu //Kurfürstenstraße 21-22, 10785 Berlin

Vernissage / Galerie Thomas Fischer

Thursday 9th April – 6pm until 9pm

Friedemann Heckel’s Let Em Tel opening this Thursday evening at Galerie Thomas Fischer explores the physical qualities of process and the meaning of mark-making in the most sensuous sense of the word. Questioning both sign and signifier, touch and touched, Heckel’s haptic exploration of inscription makes new meaning out of the practice of art making, all the while questioning the very nature of the act of creation itself.

Galerie Thomas Fischer //Potsdamer Straße 77–87, Haus H, 10785 Berlin

Performance / HAU3

Thursday 9th April – 6pm until 9pm

Treat yourself to an evening of object-based narration through the electrifying performative work of Pieter De Buysser.  On stage you’ll find eight objects, including a glove that belonged to Adam Smith, one of Boris Yeltsin empty bottles and Henry Ford’s rocking horse as well as the enigmatic performer himself, and the ensuing engagement with insight and myth-making may just change your relationship with the theatre forever.

HAU3 //Tempelhofer Ufer 10, 10963 Berlin

Vernissage / Neurotitan im Haus Schwarzenberg

Thursday 9th April – 8pm

The creative forces behind Yes We’re Open take the white cube of the gallery space and throw back the curtains to reveal the wizard at work behind the scenes, attempting to put the process of exhibit-making on display for one and all to see. In a city positively brimming with gallery space and weekend art openings, what could be more tantalizing than a little dose of transparency?
