TOP 5 EVENTS FOR YOUR BERLIN ART WEEKEND

Berlin’s top art events (13th-15th August 2015): Haubrok Foundation, Tempelhofer Feld, Freiluftkino Insel im Cassiopeia, Galerie Nagel Draxler, and zwanzigquadratmeter

Performance / Haubrok Foundation at Hebbel am Ufe

Thursday 13th August — 5pm until 11pm

With the rise of the avant-garde, performance has become consistent and powerful presence in the hallowed aesthetic space of the gallery and the museum, and yet contemporary art has rarely made its way on stage. In a compelling contra-point to the traditional siting of performance in an art space, the Haubrok Foundation brings the work of Carol Bove, Olafur Eliasson, Elmgreen and Dragset, Philippe Parreno, Willem de Rooij, Andreas Slominski and Christopher Williams to Hebbel am Ufer for a performance that pushes the very boundaries of exhibition itself.

Performance / Tempelhofer Feld

Thursday 13th August — 8pm until 11pm

Drop down the rabbit hole and lose yourself in a labyrinth of theatrical magic and mystery underneath the stars on the sprawling lawn of Tempelhof. Weave your way through a web of interconnected theatrical experiences courtesy of Theater Anu and Magica as you marvel at the power of performance and the unholy excellence of the great outdoors as a venue.

Screening / Freiluftkino Insel im Cassiopeia

Thursday 13th August — 9pm

It is a truth universally acknowledged that you simply cannot see „2001 a Space Odyssey“ too often. Whether you’ve known and loved the Kubrick classic over the course of decades or you’re new to the seminal sci-fi story, there’s no better way to experience this masterwork of modern cinema than under the stars.

Vernissage / Galerie Nagel Draxler

Friday 14th August — 7pm until 10pm

Delicate, tactile, and uncannily candid, the work of Franziska Hufnagel comes alive in conversation with the the animal subjects at the heart of these astonishing compositions. Drawing together the linguistic and the visual for an exhibition that revels in the fundamental power of organic form, Birds and Words + Morgenröte is sheer summer delight.

Galerie Nagel Draxler // Weydingerstraße 2/4, 10178 Berlin

Vernissage / zwanzigquadratmeter

Saturday 15th August — 6pm until 10pm

Drawing on a legacy of expressionist action painting and the interventionist tactics of contemporary street art, the murals of the Basel-based artist Jan Hostettler explore installation at the interstices of performance and painting. By injecting ink into holes in the wall and watching the pigment make tracks down the facade Hostettler brings chaos and color into an otherwise all-too-ordered world.
