Berlin’s top art events (3rd – 5th December 2015): Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Helmut Newton Stiftung, A Public Library, KWADRAT, and Kino Moviemento

Book Presentation and Lecture / Haus der Kulturen der Welt

Thursday 3rd December – 7pm

To mark the occasion of a recent award from the Hasselblad Foundation, Wolfgang Tillmans has released his latest book — What’s wrong with redistribution? — and this Thursday night the artist himself will make an appearance at Haus der Kulturen der Welt to discuss the social, political, and moral questions implicit in the act of transference. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to explore contemporary visual culture with one of the art world’s leading lights.

Vernissage / Helmut Newton Stiftung

Thursday 3rd December – 8pm

The Helmut Newton Stiftung is a Berlin institution and a gem of a private collection that never quite seems to secure the recognition it deserves…but that ends this weekend with the opening of  Helmut Newton: Colorworks: Pages from the Glossies / Greg Gorman. Whether you’re a regular visitor or a Newton neophyte, you won’t want to miss this vernissage — Ms. June Newton herself will be making an appearance along with the legendary Greg Gorman, so break out your best leather jacket and prepare to see and be seen.

A Public Library

Presentation and Discussion / A Public Library

Saturday 5th December – 6:30pm

You’re never too old or too cold for a little light art learning, so why not make some time in your schedule for some cultural engagement? Join Martin Conrads, Franziska Morlok and select UdK students this Saturday evening for a thorough exploration of the  possibilities and practices of literary publication and dissemination focused on the cultural space and physical place of the public library and stretch those intellectual art muscles a little.

Vernissage / KWADRAT

Saturday 5th December – 7pm until 10pm

Celebrate the lush, layered ambiguity of biodiversity with Celina Gonzalez Sueyro’s solo exhibition Flora Nativa at KWADRAT this Berlin art weekend. Argentinian-born Gonzalez Sueyro lives and works in both Berlin and Buenos Aires, drawing inspiration from the geo-specificity of each city, and transforming conceptual musings into bold, abstract, and strikingly contemplative series.

Festival Kick-Off / Kino Moviemento

Saturday 5th December – 8pm

For three days in December, video art finally gets to step out of the shadows and take center stage at Kino Moviemento on the occasion of the Berlin Art Film Festival. For the opening night extravaganza, the actress Anne Ratte-Polle will introduce screenings of Nightsongs (Die Nacht Singt Ihre Lieder) and Illusion, so make sure to secure your tickets early.
