Berlin’s top art openings and events (26th-28th Feb): Neuer Berliner Kunstverein, KOW, Johann König, Haus der Kulturen der Welt, LEAP

Vernissage / Neuer Berliner Kunstverein

Friday 27th February – 7pm

Unlike many other cities in the world, Berlin is a metropolis that genuinely tries to makes good on its promise to support the arts, with results that are occasionally quite staggering. This Friday night, you’ll have the opportunity to celebrate your own personal patronage of the arts with the opening of „History is a Warm Gun,“ where artists supported by the Berlin Senate through the Visual Arts Work Scholarship offer up work that engages with the intricacies of an artistic practice in a group show both gruelingly meta and astonishingly rewarding.

Neuer Berliner Kunstverein // Chausseestraße 128/129, 10115 Berlin

Vernissage / KOW

Friday 27th February – 6pm until 9pm

Opening this Friday at KOW, Russian artist collective Chto Delat’s exhibition “A new Cold War atmosphere, an escalating search for enemies, ever-tighter repression of all dissent, and an open military confrontation with Ukraine leaving thousands of dead on both sides” could not be more timely. This poignant, powerful exploration of the relative weight of potential in different times and places offers an opportunity some rigorous contemplation courtesy of a genuine conceptual heavyweight.

KOW // Brunnenstraße 9, 10119 Berlin

Vernissage / Johann König

Friday 27th February – 6pm until 9pm

Alicja Kwade’s striking minimal objects make space for themselves in the halls they inhabit, expanding the world of the viewer and pushing the boundaries of material specificity. Powerfully inorganic and eerily sentient, Kwade’s work explores the boundaries of our reality with thrilling insight and witty, whimsical nuance.

We did an interview with Alicja Kwade. And for all of you who want to know how she works and what her art stands for, we have her artist profile ready: Alicja Kwade
