Vernissage / Salon Dahlmann ‚Gordon Matta-Clark and Beyond: Space Interventions‘

The role of space in art is by no means a new notion. Since the late 80s space has been recognised as a cultural dimension, an extra layer to peel back and explore. One of the pioneering artists in this field was undeniably Gordon Matta-Clark. After studying architecture he embarked on a number of projects dealing primarily with space, both alone and with the artist group Anarchitecture. This exhibition takes Matta-Clark as a starting point and then traces artists‘ fascination with space interventions, spanning the work of a range of international names such as Dan Graham, Sarah Oppenheimer and Wolfgang Tilmans.

Sound performance festival & exhibition / Quiet Violence

Friday 13^th June & Saturday 14^th June – 7pm

This weekend enjoy the two day opening of sound festival and exhibition ‚Quiet Violence‘. Situated in a former margarine factory in Lichtenberg, the festival will feature 5 visual artists and 10 sound artists from Berlin, with five sound stages scattered throughout the exhibition. The theme for the event is power – describing the everyday, subtle yet imposing structures of power within our everyday lives, and the affect of the individual within society. Sound performances will be held at 9pm

There comes a point in many aspects of our lives when we have to acknowledge that what we’re doing isn’t working. What served us once is not the perfect fit forever, and letting go of everything you know and starting afresh, although terrifying, is also extremely liberating. These are realisations which emerging painter Elizabeth Hepworth faced on receiving The Dorothea Konwiarz Painting Prize, this exhibition a culmination of her new take on painting, ‚wildly confessional‘, bold and beautiful.

Vernissage / ‚Rituals‘ Elena Helfrecht at Galerie Morgenrot

Influenced by the dark forests and folklore of Bavaria, German photographer Elena Helfrecht gets back in touch with nature with her latest exhibition ‚Rituals‘. Focussing on our personal development and how much of this is governed by our place within society, Helfrecht takes the blank canavas of nature as the background for her series of etheral images; exploring the notion of truly being free.

Art prize / Berlin Art Prize

‚It’s the taking part that counts‘. Although this is a very true sentiment, winning is also nice, sometimes. This Saturday the second Berlin Art Prize awards ceremony and exhibition will take place over two floors of the Kühlhaus building, giving artists the chance to win a prize in one of three categories: best composition, best concept and jury’s choice. After the ceremony there will be an afterparty with perfromances, live music and DJs, so stick around!

Exhibition/ ‚The Game Only Ends When It’s Over‘

The twelfth stop after being exhibited at various locations across South America, ‚The Game Only Ends When It’s Over‘ is an exhibition by Rio de Janeiro’s Goethe Institut focussing on The World Cup. Featuring the work of 12 international artists, the show will focus on the economical, cultural and artistic impacts the event has on the world. Will it feature the shocking images of homeless children being routinely killed on the streets in the favelas of Rio, this exacerbated by the present world cup, or present the other ways in which the lives of locals are hideously affected by this massive corporate event? No.
