Tucked away on Genthiner Straße, Kaspar Müller’s bright, crisp, pop-infused paintings and objects radiate warmth and light as the harsh December winter descends. With crisp lines and bold color blocking Müller brings humor and whimsy as well as a certain uniquely 2oth century sense of wonder to Berlin. The spare simplicity of Müller’s oeuvre in no way detracts from the raw power of his formal enterprise, rendering the work breezy, beautiful and as powerful as a blow to the head. This is the perfect exhibition to enjoy over a glass of bubbles as you welcome the holiday season.

Looping and modulating carefully sourced original material, Jan Jelinek purifies the source of the sound, arriving at the essence of the auditory experience. Through a process of collage, layering individual tonal elements collected from samplers, taper recorders and other recording devices, Jelinek breathes new life into old sound to otherworldly effect. As a genre-bending crossover artist, Jelinek has released solo projects in his own name as well as collaborations with Sarah Morris, Thomas Meinecke, Computer Soup and Triosk over the course of two decades. Jelinek’s performances are strange yet familiar, conceptual yet comprehensible, rich, roaming and utterly original — well worth the ten euro entry fee.

Andreas Slominski doesn’t simply draw you in, he lures you, teasing and titillating with his sculptural „traps,“ voluminous installations designed to entrance and enthrall before breaking the spell and engaging you in an intimate discourse about the nature of objects, art and life. Working with found materials and a surrealist temperament, Slominski has taken over the Haubrok Foundation’s Garage 50 for a unique, site specific installation that is sure to be something very, very special.

For two nights only, ReTramp present’s a singular performative event: Niklas Leifert’s award-winning one man show examining the role of the modern male in contemporary society, the cyclical point counterpoint of father/ son and the legacy of Jesus Christ as both prodigal son and universal father. Leifert’s Messiah monologue is both radical and raucously funny, questioning the power of legacy and the plight of the protagonist when it comes to the end. If you only see one avant-garde, independent Christmas-themed dramatic performance this holiday season, let it be this one.
