Opening / Gestalten Verlag: The Age of Collage

Thursday 14th November – 6pm

Collage may have been around since cubism but it has been embraced fully in contemporary art – a notion which Gestalten champions with their latest show ‚The Age of Collage‘. The exhibition will feature 31 international artists all of whom have a penchant for collage but in distinctively unique ways – for example Swiss artist Beni Bischof, who “drills through glossy photographs with sausages.”, the result apparently “as unsettling as they are humorous”. This we can believe…

Gestalten // Sophienstraße 21, 10178 Berlin

Congress & Opening / Haus der Kulturen der Welt

Opening Thursday 14th November 7pm

Despite the sometimes overwhelming appearance that modern day society is increasingly areligious, HdK’s Global Prayers Congress is here to attest that notion. Opening with Dutch artist Aernout Mik’s multi-channel video installation exploring the parallels between the business and religious worlds, the congress will include discussions and presentations by academics and artists on current manifestations of religion in our global city. Our prediction of the religions which reign supreme? Unbridled Hedonism and cold, hard capitalism.

Haus der Kulturen der Welt // John-Foster-Dulles-Allee 10, 10557 Berlin

Opening / AJLart shows Pia Dehne

Friday 15th November – 6pm

Named after an investigation into UFO sightings between 1947 and 1969 by the US air force, Pia Dehne’s latest exhibition ‚Blue Book‘ features a series of paintings and drawings exploring the relationship between art and metaphysics. Held at AJLart, ‚Project Blue Book‘ will be Dehne’s first show in Germany in ten years, and is a natural progression form her previous projects on the topic of camouflage, studying appearances and environment.

AJLart // Potsdamerstrasse 98a, 2nd courtyard, 10785, Berlin

Opening / Open Walls Gallery: Wanted Witches – Witches Wanted

Saturday 16th November – 7pm

Witch finder general Matthew Hopkins may be long dead but using members of our global village as scapegoats certainly is not. Berlin artist duo Various & Gould explore this demonisation of nonconformists with their latest show ‚Wanted Witches – Witches Wanted‘, which will feature portraits of a range of people facing hardships for speaking their views in our supposedly enlightened modern day society. Said portraits will be made of flammable materials allowing viewers to actually strike matches on their surfaces, as if by witchcraft. Anne Wizroek, blogger and initiator of the #aufschrei anti-sexism campaign will open the exhibition with an introductory speech at 8:30pm.
