TOP 5 OPENINGS & EVENTS FOR AUGUST

Our Top 5 art exhibitions for August at the Spree River, Anna Jill Lüpertz Gallery, Galerie Friedmann-Hahn, maerzgalerie and everywhere all over the city.

Boat Rage #9 / Berlin Biennale

August 8th – 8pm-10pm

Let’s be honest: staying in the city while everyone else seems to be on vacation is the hardest. Also most galleries are closed due to summer break and there is not that much to see at the moment. So why not make the most out of it and enjoy at least a nice sunset ride on the apocalyptic looking Biennale boat with nice music feeding your soul? We’ll give it a go.

The Seattle and Ostend Texts / A Solo Show by Robert Montgomery

Until August 26th – Tuesday – Saturday noon–6 pm

EAGLES LIVE ON ROOFTOPS / NOT AS SYMBOLS / JUST AS EAGLES

The power of words combined with the power of light: This exhibition documents two works by Robert Montgomery made for the cities of Seattle (USA) and Ostend (Belgium) where the artist built beautiful huge works with illuminated poetry. Only through that he created social hot spots of exchange and discussion and proofed the genius of simple ideas. Also the gallery is lucky enough to present a new light work in it’s courtyard garden.

Thought Forms / James Nizam

Until August 6th – Tuesday – Saturday 11am – 6pm

Also James Nizam is well aware of the power of light. That is why he shapes geometric sculptures out of light, photographs them and puts them on large scale photographies. Playing with the reception of our eyes, Nizam is able to create calming and almost poetic works, you immediately want to hang in your home. An illuminating experience in every sense of the word.

Cabinet exhibition // Mia Florentine Weiss

Until August 9th – Tuesday – Friday noon–7pm, Saturday 11am–4 pm

If there is beauty in any German word, it sure is in „Wunderkammer“. In times of the Renaissance, Wunderkammers worked as hidden collections and cabinets of curiosities. Performance artist Mia Florentine Weiss now created one of her own: A mixed-media installation visualizing the Apocalypse. But besides being dark as you would expect it by now, the installation gives an insight on the artist’s thoughts on the search for shelter – a theme she worked on for years and of course finds reference to the upside down reality we all live in.

Project Space Festival

From 1st of August till 31st of August all over town

Are you ready for a month-long trip through Berlin’s independent art scene? During august, the Project Space Festival Berlin invites 30 project spaces to open their doors and realize one event within a 24-hour period. This not only gives you the chance to get a look at the non-institutional and non-commercial work of the local art community but also sensitizes for the surroundings of contemporary art production. Also we promise you to find new cool spaces you would never find anytime else.
